Acoustic Guitar Spectacular 2012 - On Tour

Acoustic Guitar Spectacular 2012 - On Tour

May/June 2012

A hand-picked group of internationally recognised guitarists from across the globe will join forces this Autumn to weave some memorable musical magic. Featuring Michael Fix, Andrea Valeri, Nick Charles and Robbie Long.
Presented by Fret Music and Guitarist Australia Magazine

Acclaimed acoustic guitarist Michael Fix – recently named as one of Australia’s Top 25 Guitarists of All Time by readers of Guitarist Australia magazine – will be joined by his Italian protégé, and one of the brightest young stars on the European stage, 21-year-old Andrea Valeri for a series of very special concerts.

Also taking part in ...several of the inaugural Acoustic Guitar Spectacular shows are Melbourne-based player Nick Charles – described by The Age as “Australia’s virtuoso of acoustic roots and blues”, a two-time Australian Flatpicking Guitar Champion and multi-instrumentalist Robbie Long and internationally acclaimed flamenco virtuoso Andrew Veivers.

Each concert has been structured so that each player will featured as a solo artist in the first half, and all players will share the stage in the second half, allowing plenty of opportunity for spontaneity and improvisation.

This is a rare opportunity to see such a wealth of amazing musical talent on the one stage. In particular, it’s a unique chance to see one of the rising stars of the global guitar scene as he embarks on his first tour of Australia.

“I’ve been touring internationally since 2004, and every year I meet incredible guitar players who blow me away,” said Michael Fix.

“I've been looking for an opportunity to bring some of these people to Australia, and I’m thrilled that the first such guitarist will be Andrea Valeri. He's only 21, and I believe he has what it takes to become one the world's great players.

“I urge people to check him out online, and see him in concert, not just to admire his technical excellence, but to be touched by his beautiful original tunes, as well as his smooth Mediterranean charm!”

“I would love to see the Acoustic Guitar Spectacular become an annual event, and I hope to bring many more of the world’s great players to Australia over the next few years.”

The Acoustic Guitar Spectacular 2012 will feature 10 shows in New South Wales and Queensland. Don't miss this one-off opportunity to see these incredible players in action!

Michael Fix’s entertaining and amazing fretboard wizardry has seen him earn a place amongst the world’s top players, regularly touring Europe, Japan, South Africa, New Zealand and Asia. Michael is noted for his unique and moving compositions and popular arrangements that combine feeling and flash, presented with plenty of humour and stories.
He was recently voted one of Australia’s Top 25 Guitarists of All Time’ by readers of Guitarist Australia magazine and is the winner of three Instrumental of the Year Golden Guitars, amongst other awards.

From Tuscany, Italy, and making his first ever visit to Australia, Andrea Valeri has been shaking up the guitar world in Europe with his sophisticated cover arrangements and heartfelt original compositions. Performing professionally from the age of 16, he has garnered much success in Europe. Now 21, Andrea is already a veteran of many guitar festivals worldwide, sharing the stage, recording and collaborating with some of the world’s greatest guitar players.

Described by The Age as “Australia’s virtuoso of acoustic roots and blues”, Nick Charles’ performance features dazzling six-string, twelve-string, slide guitars and songs drawing from the rich traditions of American folk, blues, country, and early jazz and ragtime. With over 200 shows a year from Perth to Kansas City and more than a dozen albums to his credit, it's easy to see why Australian Guitar Magazine refers to Nick as “an awesome talent!”

A regular player on the Australian festival scene, Robbie Long is a two-time Australian Flatpicking Guitar Champion. Although Rob has jazz/rock foundations, he has gathered tools from a spectrum of musical genres through his journeys, adding spice and depth and variety to his playing. His repertoire spans bluegrass, Irish trad, gypsy jazz, blues, rock and fusion. Expect some luscious solo pieces, some sizzling flatpicking, some tasty bottleneck slide, with a few vocal pieces to boot!

One of Australia’s finest Spanish Guitarists, Andrew Veivers draws on a wide range of musical influences to evoke the sensual and mesmerising sounds of the Spanish guitar in all of its guises. Touring regularly throughout the UK, Europe and Japan, as well as featuring at many of Australia's leading festivals, Andrew has established himself as a musician, director, composer, and teacher of the highest calibre, both as a soloist and with Flamenco Fire and The Saruzu Quartet.
